For several months TF1 and Club Dorothée have been the target of criticism concerning the violence of certain manga and the lack of investment in French creation. In 1989, the CSA imposed new production quotas for youth programs. Before school therefore allows the channel to broadcast European and French cartoons in order to respect these quotas [3].
During the school holidays of 1989, the program took the title of The buissonnière school [4].
From 1990, the show was presented by Zig Zag, an animated character invented for the occasion.
From September 1991, the show gets an additional time slot at 6.30 a.m. under the title Club mini Zig Zag
